OUR HISTORY
HISTORY OF OSL
"For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid,
which is Jesus Christ."
1 Corinthians 3:11
Humble beginnings— In a library!
The Central Arkansas Mission Action Council identified Cabot, AR. as a potential for a "mission start". Pastor Larry Seiferth of Trinity—North Little Rock conducted the first worship service in Cabot on Christmas Day in a room at the Cabot City Library.
Worship continued here every week with Bible Study on alternating weeks. Pastor Paul Meyerhoff of Shepherd of Peace —Maumelle assisted with the ministry, known as "Lutheran Mission of Cabot".
Rooted in Cabot
We were recognized and approved to receive a three-year grant of $100,000 for a full-time pastor beginning in 2003. The mission name changed to "Our Savior Lutheran". We relocated to Hope Presbyterian Church at 301 South Pine Street, meeting Sunday afternoons for worship at 3:00 p.m.
A 5-acre property was purchased in October as part of a long range plan. In June 2003, Mark Eisold along with his family arrived directly from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis to be ordained and installed as Pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Cabot, Arkansas.
Called to Serve
When Pastor Mark arrived, attendance averaged around 30 on Sundays. Within 9 months, we were worshipping with over 100 every week. The church was chartered October 2004. In November of 2005 Hope Presbyterian sold us the land and facilities, which were renovated in spring of 2006. The decision was made to sell the previously purchased property, and the money was invested into a new Fellowship Hall.
Building On
Fall 2008 the Fellowship Hall was completed to accommodate our growing membership. A third Sunday morning service was added. As the church grew, it was realized the need for more classroom space for Sunday School. Fall 2009 saw the construction of three additional classrooms and renovation of the old classroom area. The new facilities became reality in summer 2010. Pastor Mark Eisold received a call to start the Lutheran Church in Peru. He left at the end of June 2010.
"We exist to love God, one another, and all people!"
August 2010 Pastor Dan "Mac" McDougall became the interim pastor until our church could call a new full-time pastor. Late 2011 Our Savior made one call that was not accepted. A second call was made, and Pastor Mac accepted the call to become our second full-time pastor.
A New Chapter
Pastor Mike was called to serve at Our Savior Lutheran in April of 2022. A new concrete slab was poured in front of the entrance and was dedicated as "Our Savior's Garden", a place for rest and meditation on God's goodness. The new entrance allowed for easier access to the church for all people.
Expanding our facilities
Summer 2012 saw the construction of a pavilion next to the church with a dedication in summer 2013. The new electric church sign was installed in 2014 and Paul Easterday was called as a youth pastor in 2015.
The congregation adopted the new slogan: "Having been loved by God, we now exist to Love God, one another and all people."
